There is no single one-to-one Korean equivalent for the broad Chinese term 拍貼機. The appropriate word depends on whether you mean the shop, the machine or the printed photograph.

  • 셀프사진관, self-sajin-gwan: the self-photo studio business format.
  • 포토부스, po-to-bu-seu: the machine, a borrowing of English photo booth.
  • 네컷사진, ne-keot-sa-jin: the four-frame photograph.

If you only remember one for finding a shop, remember 셀프사진관. For locations, the process and saving digital photographs, see the Korea photo booth guide. The terminology and service observations below retain the Chinese article’s September 2026 research scope.

The three terms

Korean Where it appears When to use it
셀프사진관, self-sajin-gwan Shop signs and companies’ introductions Finding a shop, asking directions or explaining where you are going.
포토부스, po-to-bu-seu Signs, mall floor directories and machine labels Referring to the machine; it can also be used to search for shops.
네컷사진, ne-keot-sa-jin In-store materials, social posts and conversation Referring to the resulting four-frame photo strip.

The distinction splits the shop, equipment and photograph into separate terms where Chinese often uses one broad expression. In practice all point toward the same activity; an imperfect choice may sound less natural without necessarily being misunderstood.

인생네컷 is a brand name

인생네컷, insaeng-ne-keot, is the Korean brand name for Life4Cuts, literally life four cuts. It became a casual generic expression after the brand grew early and widely.

The source points to competitor Photoism placing 인생네컷 in its website keywords: that use of another company’s name helps establish that it is a trademark rather than a neutral category name.

A shop sign actually saying 인생네컷 identifies a Life4Cuts branch. Someone casually suggesting taking 인생네컷 may simply mean four-cut photographs. For a brand-neutral category, 네컷사진 or 셀프사진관 is more precise. 포토이즘 (Photoism), 포토그레이 (PHOTOGRAY) and 하루필름 (Haru Film) are also brand names.

Searching and pronunciation

Use a place name plus the shop term:

  • 홍대 셀프사진관: Hongdae self-photo studios.
  • 성수 셀프사진관: Seongsu self-photo studios.
  • 명동 포토부스: Myeongdong photo booths.
  • 강남 포토부스: Gangnam photo booths.

Pronunciation guides are self-sajin-gwan, po-to-bu-seu and ne-keot-sa-jin. The self component is the English borrowing.

The September 2026 source describes Google Maps coverage and ranking in Korea as less complete than Naver Maps and Kakao Maps, connecting that situation with restrictions on exporting detailed map data. It notes that local users commonly use Naver or Kakao, but a short-term visitor can often combine brands’ official branch pages with Google Maps for directions. These are the source’s dated practical observations, not a new assessment of map regulations or coverage.

Words on screens and signs

  • 촬영, chwaryeong: shooting.
  • 보정, bojeong: retouching or beauty adjustment, available as an extra step on some screens.
  • 프레임, frame: the border layout selected on screen.
  • QR코드, QR code: the code used to retrieve the digital file.

The last matters particularly. Most brands described in the source print a physical photograph and supply a separate QR code for digital retrieval. Download deadlines differ; the shortest cited is only 24 hours. The Korea guide compares brand-specific retrieval rules. Download on site rather than relying on a code indefinitely.

What does a session cost?

The research had not found an official unified tariff. The major brands’ corporate websites did not publish a single session-price list; prices were usually displayed on the machine or a local board and differed by shop and package, including people, layout and number of prints. The article deliberately does not construct a range from third-party travel diaries.

Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong terms

Taiwan uses 拍貼機 or 韓式拍貼; photographs are 拍貼, with 大頭貼 common among older speakers. Hong Kong commonly says 貼紙相. Japan’s traditional format is プリクラ (purikura), derived from the name of a machine introduced in 1995; see Japanese vocabulary.

Frequently asked questions

How do 셀프사진관 and 포토부스 differ?

The first identifies the shop format; the second the machine. Both may appear on signs and both can help find a shop.

Is 인생네컷 generic?

It started as Life4Cuts’ name and later became loosely generic. Use 네컷사진 or 셀프사진관 when a neutral category is needed.

Can I use a booth without speaking Korean?

Yes, the shooting process mainly uses touchscreen icons. Pay attention to the Korean instructions and expiry period for digital downloads and scan the code immediately afterwards.

How should I search a map?

Combine the place name with 셀프사진관 or 포토부스, and use official branch pages to confirm locations rather than assuming a map listing is complete.
