- Do not confuse the population estimate with the FSC’s certified “high-asset customer” count — about 26,900 people as of June 2026 (26,866 per FSC), a bank-application-based figure with a stricter, single-bank definition.

Two major bank-affiliated surveys track this segment. Their methodologies differ (estimation approach and asset coverage), so same-year figures diverge — but the direction is consistent:

These are broad estimates of total personal assets. No single official statistic confirms them; they synthesize financial-institution research and tax-filing data for the high-asset population.

Only two anchors have published survey backing (NT$100M and NT$1B); the intermediate figures are order-of-magnitude estimates interpolated between them:

Context: the top of the pyramid
Per the Forbes Taiwan rich list published June 2026, the top 50 fortunes total a record US$308 billion (~NT$10 trillion) — up 56% in one year, driven by the AI-semiconductor rally. The 2026 list reshuffled: the Chang brothers of ASE Technology jumped from 7th to 1st (US$22.4 billion), Yageo’s Chen Tai-ming rose to 2nd (US$18.2 billion), and the Fubon Tsai family slipped to 3rd (US$16.7 billion). All eight newcomers to the list come from semiconductor or AI-related supply chains. The list’s entry bar rose from US$0.765 billion (2021) to US$2.2 billion (2026) — nearly tripling in five years.
In Forbes’ 2024 global billionaire census, Taiwan had 51 US-dollar billionaires, about 2% of the world total — comparable to the UK (55) and France (53).
How not to misuse these numbers
- “NT$100M+ population” (est. 124,000) ≠ “FSC-certified high-asset customers” (~26,900, June 2026). The former is a population-wide estimate; the latter counts people certified by a single bank where their assets under that bank exceed NT$100 million.
- These are asset estimates, not income. All thresholds refer to total assets, not annual earnings.
- Survey scopes differ. KPMG × E.SUN and CTBC × BCG use different estimation methods; cite the source alongside the number.
