# Japan's Niche Costume-and-Purikura Market: The Companies Behind 37 Venues Offering コスプリ

## Summary

Borrowing a uniform or character costume at a Japanese purikura venue, changing into it, and then taking photos is called “コスプリ,” a combination of コスプレ (cosplay) and プリクラ (purikura). As of September 25, 2026, photobooth.joelin.cc's Japan コスプリ venue list contained 37 locations offering costumes across 16 prefectures. The list has two evidence tiers: 22 venues explicitly confirmed by the venue or brand's official sources, and 15 identified only by labels on FURYU's official map.

By operator, the list includes 27 タイトーステーション venues, of which 15 are officially confirmed; four GiGO venues; two namco/eggnam venues; two ME TOKYO venues; one WEGO プリパーク venue; and Hiroshima's プリクラ館本通店. Of the 37 venues, 35 belong to arcade and entertainment-facility chains.

The official website for タイトー's purikura brand brooming lists 20 locations and identifies the facilities at each. Thirteen have costume lending checked; the three standalone stores named brooming do not. GiGO branches announce their services individually on official social accounts. GiGO 池袋2号館 describes itself as a purikura specialty store and makes costume lending a central attraction. eggnam officially lists two stores, both offering costumes. ME TOKYO's Shinjuku location dedicates its third floor to purikura, while its Ikebukuro location has a cosplay corner on the fourth floor; ME TOKYO also follows a gender-inclusive policy.

No costume-lending service was found in the official information for FURYU's directly operated girls mignon stores or operators such as モーリーファンタジー, ラウンドワン, and NICOPA. The service is decided at the individual-store level: no chain offers it at every branch. FURYU's “コスプレ” map label is incomplete and inconsistent, so it serves only as a lead. Prices and opening hours vary by store and are not listed in this article.

### Key facts

- As of September 25, 2026, photobooth.joelin.cc's Japan コスプリ venue list contained 37 purikura locations offering costumes across 16 prefectures: 22 officially confirmed and 15 identified only on FURYU's official map.
- The 37 venues comprise 27 タイトーステーション locations, four GiGO locations, two namco/eggnam locations, two ME TOKYO locations, one WEGO プリパーク location, and one プリクラ館本通店. These are locations where costume lending could be identified, not the companies' total store counts.
- The official brand page for タイトー's purikura brand brooming lists 20 stores, with store-by-store indicators for makeup stations, curling irons, and costume lending. Thirteen offer costumes. The three standalone stores named brooming—アスナル金山, 浜松メイワン, and イオン富士宮—do not have costume lending checked. This was verified on September 25, 2026.
- バンダイナムコ's purikura specialty brand eggnam officially lists two stores, at Osaka's HEP FIVE and 横浜ワールドポーターズ. Both explicitly offer costumes. This was verified on September 25, 2026.
- No company-level page explaining GiGO's costume-lending service was found. Individual branches announce it on their official social accounts. GiGO 池袋2号館 calls itself a “プリ専門店,” or purikura specialty store, and makes costume lending a central attraction.
- ME TOKYO's Shinjuku location dedicates its entire third floor to purikura and a café. Its official opening press release lists costume lending. An official マルハン article explains its gender-inclusive policy, under which groups of men can use the purikura machines.
- About 80 posts from stores' official Instagram accounts, read on September 25, 2026, showed that maid costumes were the main offering, followed by animal outfits, uniforms, Lolita dresses, idol-style outfits, and character mascot suits. The most popular costume at brooming 新宿東口店 in August 2026 was the white cat.
- Designs from costume brand Malymoon appeared at brooming, GiGO 池袋2号館, ME TOKYO SHINJUKU, and WEGO プリパーク. From March 9, 2026, eggnam classified some costumes as higher-priced “プレミアム衣装,” or premium costumes.
- No costume lending was found in the official information for FURYU's directly operated girls mignon stores, モーリーファンタジー, アドアーズ, プラサカプコン, ラウンドワン, or NICOPA.

Borrowing a uniform or character costume at a Japanese purikura venue, changing into it, and then stepping into a machine to take photos is called “コスプリ”—コスプレ plus プリクラ. It is a niche service within Japan's purikura industry. The photobooth database I maintain brings together locations where costume lending could be identified in a [Japan コスプリ venue list](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/japan/cosplay/). As of September 25, 2026, it contained 37 venues across 16 prefectures, including 27 タイトーステーション branches.

This article does not list addresses; those and the maps are on the venue-list page. Instead, it examines who runs this small business: which companies offer it, what roles they play in the purikura industry, how they publicly describe the service, and how to interpret the list's data. For Japan's three-layer division of labor—manufacturers make the machines, venue operators install them, and brands run specialty stores—see the series overview, [More Than 40% of Japan's Purikura Machines Are in Arcades](/p/9820).

## The conclusion first: this is a service provided by venue operators

Of the 37 venues, 35 belong to four arcade and entertainment-facility chains, including those chains' own purikura brands. The other two are a photo area inside a clothing brand's store and an independent purikura store in Hiroshima. This research found no costume lending at purikura specialty stores operated directly by manufacturers.

There is a reasonable interpretation of this distribution. Costume lending requires clothing management, changing space, and staff supervision, and it does not directly generate another machine sale. As the overview article explained, machines at venue operators' branches are heavily concentrated around a single manufacturer. Customers visiting different chains are therefore likely to encounter much the same machines. Services beyond the machines are where operators can differentiate themselves. コスプリ is a particularly labor-intensive example, so the companies offering it are those trying to make the purikura area a destination in its own right.

One other point needs to be clear from the outset: no chain offers this service at every store. The decision is made at the individual-store level. Under the same sign, some branches lend costumes and others do not.

## One table: who offers it, and how they disclose it

![Five brand logos arranged in three rows: white TAITO lettering on black at the upper left, white handwritten brooming lettering on mint green at the upper right, blue GiGO at the middle left, black handwritten eggnam at the middle right, and black ME TOKYO centered at the bottom.](https://image.joelin.cc/cdn-cgi/imagedelivery/0xu8EsaSar9n3zUKY5d7xw/joelin/2026-09/cospuri-brand-logos/hero)

The five main brands discussed here, from left to right and top to bottom:

- タイトー: the company operating タイトーステーション.
- brooming: the brand name タイトー gives to the purikura areas at some branches.
- GiGO: arcades operated by GENDA GiGO Entertainment.
- eggnam: purikura specialty stores operated by バンダイナムコアミューズメント.
- ME TOKYO: entertainment venues operated by マルハン東日本カンパニー.

The logos come from the brands' official websites, accessed on September 25, 2026. The brooming website's logo uses white lettering; here it is placed on the mint-green background used on that website.

| Operator | Role | Venue count: officially confirmed / map-labeled | How the service is officially disclosed |
|---|---|---|---|
| [タイトーステーション](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/taito-station/) (タイトー) | Venue operator with its own purikura brand, [brooming](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/brooming/) | 27 (15 / 12) | Store-by-store indicators on brooming's official brand page, plus individual branches' official store pages and X accounts |
| [GiGO](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/gigo/) (GENDA GiGO Entertainment) | Venue operator | 4 (2 / 2) | Individual branches announce it on their official social accounts; no company-level explanation page was found |
| [namco](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/namco-japan/) (バンダイナムコアミューズメント) | Venue operator with its own purikura brand, [eggnam](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/eggnam/) | 2 (2 / 0) | eggnam's official brand page explicitly lists costume lending; the Osaka HEP FIVE store has an official announcement from 2022 |
| [ME TOKYO](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/me-tokyo/) (マルハン東日本カンパニー) | Venue operator: entertainment facilities | 2 (2 / 0) | Official opening press releases for the Shinjuku and Ikebukuro stores |
| WEGO プリパーク (WEGO) | Purikura area inside a clothing brand's store | 1 (1 / 0) | WEGO's official blog |
| プリクラ館本通店 (Hiroshima) | Local independent purikura store | 1 (0 / 1) | Labeled only on the manufacturer's official map; no statement from the store's own official sources was found |

The numbers in this table count venues in the list where costume lending could be identified. They are neither the companies' total store counts nor the number of their branches with purikura machines; those are three different measures. “Officially confirmed” means the store or brand explicitly mentions costume lending on its official website or social accounts. “Map-labeled” means FURYU's official purikura-machine map marks the store as having a “コスプレ” facility, but the store's own official page does not say so. A branch's absence from the list therefore means only that we could not find evidence, not that it definitely lacks the service.

## タイトー: including costume lending in its purikura brand's service list

タイトー is a wholly owned subsidiary of スクウェア・エニックス・ホールディングス. Its タイトーステーション venues are general-purpose arcades. At some branches, the purikura area carries an additional brand name, “brooming.” The official brand page's slogan is “Be your cutest! Shine as yourself!”

The official brooming brand page lists 20 stores, verified on September 25, 2026, with checkboxes for three facilities at each: makeup stations, curling irons, and costume lending. Thirteen of the 20 have costume lending checked. Some branches also specify charges for using only the changing room. Official sources that publicly list costume lending store by store are uncommon in this field, so タイトー's majority share of the list partly reflects how easy its information is to find. However, 12 of the 15 venues identified only through map labels are also タイトーステーション locations. The large number cannot be explained entirely by information availability.

![タイトーステーション大須店 in Nagoya's Osu shopping district in January 2025, with a red TAITO STATION sign and a vertical GAME sign. タイトーステーション大須店 in Nagoya, January 2025. brooming signs are visible on the staircase and floor directory. The Osu store is one of the branches with costume lending checked on brooming's official page, yet FURYU's official map does not label it “コスプレ.” This comes up again in “Three things to keep in mind when reading the list” below. Photo: Asturio Cantabrio, [CC BY-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/), [original image](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Taito_Station_Osu_2025-01_ac_%281%29.jpg).

Beyond brooming, some タイトーステーション branches promote costume lending on their own official store pages or X accounts:

- The official store page for タイトーステーション広島紙屋町 lists costumes and wigs, including ちいかわ, maid outfits, and the 千本桜 series. It also explicitly says customers can bring their own clothing.
- The official store page for タイトーステーション船橋店 has an announcement stating that costumes are available to borrow.
- タイトーステーション広島本通店 has promoted seasonal Halloween costumes on its official X account.

One detail is worth noting: the three standalone stores whose entire store name is brooming—アスナル金山, 浜松メイワン, and イオン富士宮—do not have costume lending checked on the official page. A store carrying the brand name across its entire storefront does not necessarily offer more services. Costume lending appears to depend more on a branch's customer base and available space.

## GiGO: branches run the service themselves, and 池袋2号館 makes it a central attraction

GiGO is operated by GENDA GiGO Entertainment. Its parent company GENDA is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market under stock code 9166. GiGO does not have a purikura brand with a shared name across stores as brooming does. No company-level page explaining costume lending was found either; individual branches announce it through their own official social accounts.

The list contains four GiGO venues, two with official statements:

- The official Instagram and X accounts for GiGO 池袋2号館 describe it as a “プリ専門店,” or purikura specialty store. Costume lending is a central attraction, and its official social accounts say it has at least 300 types of costumes. Its store page on the corporate website, however, still lists purikura alongside card games, capsule toys, and a café, and its store name remains GiGO.
- GiGO 渋谷 has a costume-rental area on the third floor. Its official X account has introduced maid outfits, police uniforms, shrine-maiden outfits, sailor-style school uniforms, and other designs.

![The GiGO池袋2号館 store-information page on GiGO's official website. The game-types field lists photo stickers, card games, and capsule toys, without describing the venue as a specialty store.](https://image.joelin.cc/cdn-cgi/imagedelivery/0xu8EsaSar9n3zUKY5d7xw/joelin/2026-09/gigo-ikebukuro2-official-shop-page-2026-09/hero)

How GiGO 池袋2号館 appears on GiGO's official website: purikura is only one of three game categories, a different description from the “purikura specialty store” wording on its social accounts. GiGO 新大久保 and GiGO 水戸店 are identified only by labels on FURYU's official map.

## namco and eggnam: the purikura brand lists costume lending as a basic service

namco is operated by バンダイナムコアミューズメント. Its ultimate parent is バンダイナムコホールディングス, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market under stock code 7832. namco itself is a general-purpose arcade operator, but it also runs the purikura specialty-store brand eggnam. The official brand page lists two stores—HEP FIVE in Osaka's Umeda district and 横浜ワールドポーターズ—verified on September 25, 2026. Both explicitly offer costumes.

The namco store at Osaka's HEP FIVE officially announced costume lending as early as July 2022. Its offerings included maid outfits, sailor-style school uniforms, police uniforms, qipao dresses, and nurse uniforms, along with accessories and curling irons. The venue appears in the list under the name of the facility housing it, “バンダイナムコ Cross Store 大阪梅田.” eggnam is on the ninth floor.

## ME TOKYO: a pachinko company's entertainment venue dedicates an entire floor to purikura

ME TOKYO is an entertainment venue created for Generation Z by pachinko operator マルハン. Its operator, マルハン東日本カンパニー, is an internal business unit under the company's internal-company system, rather than a subsidiary. The Shinjuku location dedicates its entire third floor to purikura and a café. Its official opening press release listed costume and accessory lending, as well as makeup stations in both the men's and women's restrooms.

Another distinctive feature of ME TOKYO is its gender policy. Rules prohibiting men from using purikura machines without female company are common in Japan's purikura industry. An official article by マルハン東日本カンパニー uses that convention as a point of comparison, explaining that ME TOKYO follows a gender-inclusive policy and allows groups of men to use its purikura machines.

![A pink sign states that the fifth-floor purikura area is reserved for women, groups accompanied by women, and couples. Illustrations below explain that men entering alone are not admitted. This is what the industry's common restriction looks like: a sign at the entrance to a タイトーステーション fifth-floor purikura area in September 2006. It states that the floor is reserved for women, groups accompanied by women, and couples, and that men entering alone are not admitted. The branch photographed was not identified. The official opening press release for the Ikebukuro store says that the fourth-floor Beauty LOUNGE is “also equipped with a fully fledged cosplay corner,” with a range of costumes and makeup products. Purikura is available on the same floor. Based on this press release, the Ikebukuro location was added to the list on September 25, 2026.

## Beyond arcade operators: one clothing brand and one local purikura store

Two venues in the list fall outside the arcade-operator category.

- WEGO プリパーク is a purikura area opened by clothing brand WEGO on basement level one of SoLaDo in Harajuku. Its official blog explicitly states that costumes are available and charged by time. A collaboration offering with Malymoon was added in December 2025. It is an example of a clothing brand entering the purikura business.
- Hiroshima's プリクラ館本通店 is identified only by a label on FURYU's official map. No statement from the store's own official sources was found, so the list places it in the map-labeled tier.

## Manufacturer-operated stores and other venue operators: no service found

The official pages for [girls mignon](https://photobooth.joelin.cc/brand/girls-mignon/), FURYU's directly operated purikura specialty stores, list facilities such as makeup stations and curling irons. No costume lending was found. FURYU is a Japanese purikura-machine manufacturer; for company research, see [The Transformation of FURYU, Japan's Leading Purikura-Machine Maker](/p/1918). The facilities officially listed for its directly operated stores focus on makeup, distinguishing them from the operator branches offering コスプリ.

Among arcade operators, no costume lending was found in the official information for モーリーファンタジー, アドアーズ, プラサカプコン and CAPCOMIX, ラウンドワン, or NICOPA. None was found for the purikura specialty stores プリフェスタ or ぷりタウン either.

## What costumes can you borrow? Maid outfits dominate, and popular designs come from the same clothing brand

The companies' official websites give costume-lending hours and fees but do not list the designs. Costume catalogs are posted on each store's own official Instagram account. On September 25, 2026, I read roughly 80 recent posts from seven official accounts: GiGO 池袋2号館; brooming 新宿東口店, 札幌狸小路4丁目店, 広島本通店, and 福岡天神店; eggnam 横浜ワールドポーターズ店; and ME TOKYO SHINJUKU. The available costumes broadly fell into these categories:

- Maid outfits are the main offering and have the most variations: checked maids, cat-ear maids, classic maids, nurse maids, little-devil maids, and even maid outfits mixed with sportswear. brooming 新宿東口店 offers checked maid outfits alone in nine colors.
- Animal outfits are also common: white cats, pink cats, bears, and fluffy cats and rabbits. Most are complete sets with hats, gloves, and tails.
- Uniforms include sailor-style school uniforms, police, nurses, nuns, shrine maidens, jiangshi/Taoist-priest outfits, kindergarten uniforms, and American diner waitresses.
- Lolita dresses include strawberry Lolita and black-cat Gothic Lolita designs. A post by GiGO 池袋2号館 explicitly says its Lolita outfits can be worn outside the store.
- Idol-style checked sets are recommended for matching outfits with friends in the signature color of the idol you support, known as an “推しカラー.”
- Qipao dresses, magical-girl outfits, and princess dresses form another category. ME TOKYO SHINJUKU's magical-girl series belongs here.
- Character mascot suits: brooming 新宿東口店's catalog includes ちいかわ, ハチワレ, うさぎ, マイメロ, and クロミ.
- Seasonal designs: from late September, several stores introduced Halloween costumes, including pumpkin maids, sailor-style school uniforms with fake blood, and military-style police outfits.

Accessories such as cat ears, rabbit ears, and lace headbands are available separately.

brooming 新宿東口店 has also published its own popularity rankings. In August 2026, the white cat ranked first, and four of the top five outfits were maid costumes.

All four top-ranked designs came from the same costume brand, Malymoon (マリームーン). The brand appears across several operators:

- brooming 新宿東口店 gives Malymoon costumes their own catalog, separate from the standard designs.
- brooming 広島本通店's new-costume announcement features Malymoon maid outfits.
- Posts recommending costumes at GiGO 池袋2号館 and ME TOKYO SHINJUKU tag Malymoon's official account. ME TOKYO also offers maid outfits from a collaboration between Malymoon and the maid café @home cafe.
- WEGO プリパーク has offered a collaboration with Malymoon since December 2025, as discussed in “Beyond arcade operators” above.

In other words, many of the popular designs customers see across different chains actually come from the same costume brand. Operators compete over more than machines: they also compete to bring popular outfits into their stores first.

Rental offerings are also beginning to split into tiers. From March 9, 2026, both eggnam stores classified some outfits as “プレミアム衣装,” or premium costumes, rented at prices above the standard designs. See the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DVQWuj6CT-n/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">eggnam 横浜ワールドポーターズ店 announcement</a>. The Malymoon designs at brooming 新宿東口店 likewise have a separate, higher price schedule. Standard outfits encourage people to come in and dress up; branded designs increase spending per customer. That is the division of roles suggested by the official announcements.

The brooming 新宿東口店 catalog also states that costume lending is limited to women and requires identification. Rules differ by store; follow the store's own announcements.

## Three things to keep in mind when reading the list

- Costume lending is decided at the individual-store level. Under the same chain's sign, some branches offer it and others do not. One branch's practice cannot be generalized to the entire chain.
- The “コスプレ” label on FURYU's official map is incomplete and inconsistent. タイトーステーション大須店 explicitly offers costumes according to its official information, but the map does not label it. Harajuku's プリクラLAND NOA lends only character headpieces, yet the map labels it. The eggnam HEP FIVE store is not on the map at all. The map therefore serves only as a lead. The list prioritizes stores' own official information and places venues identified solely through map labels in a separate tier.
- Searching for “ルトロワ コスプレ” can give the impression that costumes are available at ル・トロワ in Sapporo. In fact, its fourth floor has only girls mignon, which does not lend clothing. The search term is related to Sapporo's street cosplay event “サツコス,” whose participants wear their own outfits to take photos. The nearby venue where costume lending could be identified is タイトーステーション札幌狸小路4丁目店.

![An overhead view of a Harajuku street on a rainy day, crowded with umbrellas in many colors. Stores that lend only headpieces, such as プリクラLAND NOA, and stores that lend only kimono, such as mimi standard at Kyoto's 河原町OPA, fall outside the list's full-costume-lending scope and are excluded. Costume designs, fees, opening hours, and age and gender rules vary by store and change frequently. Neither this article nor the list page provides numerical details for these conditions. ## Where demand is concentrated

The site's search data shows that people looking for コスプリ often combine it with the place names Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Hiroshima. The first three are Tokyo neighborhoods popular with young people, and all have corresponding venues in the list. Shibuya has GiGO 渋谷, with WEGO プリパーク in Harajuku within walking distance. Shinjuku has ME TOKYO SHINJUKU and two タイトーステーション locations. Ikebukuro has GiGO 池袋2号館, ME TOKYO IKEBUKURO, and タイトーステーション池袋西口店.

Hiroshima is the more unexpected entry. The list contains four venues in Hiroshima, all within Hiroshima city: タイトーステーション本通店, 紙屋町, and フジグラン緑井店, plus プリクラ館本通店. With four venues in one city and the city frequently appearing in searches, supply and demand align here.

## FAQ

### What is コスプリ?

コスプリ combines コスプレ (cosplay) and プリクラ (purikura). It means borrowing a uniform or character costume at a Japanese purikura store, changing into it, and then entering a purikura machine to take photos. It is an additional service provided by the store, rather than a type of machine.

### Which companies' purikura stores in Japan offer costumes?

According to photobooth.joelin.cc's Japan コスプリ venue list as of September 25, 2026, 35 of the 37 venues belong to arcade and entertainment-facility chains: 27 タイトーステーション locations, including its purikura brand brooming; four GiGO locations; two namco locations under its purikura brand eggnam; and two ME TOKYO locations. The remaining venues are clothing brand WEGO's プリパーク and Hiroshima's プリクラ館本通店, one each. No chain offers the service at every store; it is decided individually by location.

### What kinds of clothes can you borrow at Japanese purikura stores?

Stores' official Instagram posts from September 2026 show that maid outfits are the most common, with variations such as checked, cat-ear, and classic designs. Animal outfits, including white cats and bears, come next. Other options include sailor-style school uniforms, police and nurse uniforms, Lolita dresses, idol-style sets, qipao dresses, magical-girl outfits, mascot suits for ちいかわ and Sanrio characters, and seasonal Halloween designs. Many popular outfits come from costume brand Malymoon and are available at brooming, GiGO 池袋2号館, and ME TOKYO.

### How much does it cost to borrow clothes at Japanese purikura stores?

Fees, charging methods—per item or by time—and opening hours vary by store and change frequently, so this article does not list figures. タイトー brooming's official brand page lists services store by store. For other venues, consult each store's official website or social accounts.

### If FURYU's purikura-machine map labels a store “コスプレ,” does that guarantee I can borrow clothes?

No. The “コスプレ” label on FURYU's official map is incomplete and inconsistent. Some stores explicitly offer costume lending in their official information but lack the label; others lend only character headpieces yet are labeled. The map serves only as a lead. Before visiting, rely on the store's own official announcements.
